Sierra Heavy Duty

Bigger, stronger and smarter, the all-new 2020 GMC Sierra Heavy Duty combines greater trailering capability with technologies designed to provide customers with a world-class towing experience. The diesel engine is a good addition to the truck and one that I think is probably worth it. GMC charges $2,495 more than the 5.3-liter V8 engine for the Duramax. This is a pretty big chunk of change, but it’s not an outrageous amount. The engine is smooth, powerful, and much more efficient than the V8.

The lighting

Sierra Heavy Duty’s striking visual identity is apparent even at night, thanks to GMC’s signature exterior lighting elements, which provide both visibility and bold looks. Along with GMC’s trademark C-shaped high-intensity LED car light bulb blades in both the headlamps and taillamps, Sierra Heavy Duty models incorporate LED marker lamps into the truck’s bold wheel arch design, further helping Sierra stand apart from the crowd, even in the dark.

The Console

The cab has a large center console and room for storage below the rear seats. The bed is wider than that of the competition to make it easier to carry four-by-eight sheets of plywood and drywall. GMC makes access to the bed easier with its MultiPro tailgate that can act as a step and side steps in front of the rear wheels. Unfortunately, it bangs on the trailer hitch of trucks so equipped. Inside the bed, the Sierra HD has 12 corner tie-downs and a 120-volt power outlet. Very functional.

Led Headlight

The all-new Sierra HD is highlighted by new signature lighting, including prominent light blades” that deliver LED illumination for the daytime running lamps. The 9007 led bulb kit is also used for the headlamps, taillamps, available fog lamps and other illuminative elements, including the available roof marker lights standard on all dual-rear-wheel HDs and all Sierra HD Denalis except where prohibited by law.

Longer Wheelbase

Its longer wheelbase also gives it segment-best cargo bed volume, a figure that also hasn’t been provided. A newly available 120-volt power outlet and 12 tie-downs are integrated, as is a 1-inch lower bed height, and segment-exclusive cargo bedside steps located in front of the rear wheel openings on all box styles. The six-function MultiPro tailgate introduced on the 2019 Sierra 1500 is available on all trims and standard on SLT, AT4, and Denali.

Sierra Heavy Duty

Available in dealerships by the end of this summer, both the GMC Sierra HD 2500 and 3500 will be powered by only one engine, GM’s 6.6-litre Duramax turbo-diesel V8. At the moment, nothing has been said about a gasoline engine or a six-speed automatic gearbox, like its brother. One thing’s for certain, this GMC gets the Allison ten-speed automatic unit.
